Appointment of MBKS Councillors
Minister for Local government, Senator Datuk Dr. Sim Kui Hian yesterday witnessed the swearing in of the deputy mayor, Hilmy Othman, and 30 other councillors of the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) held at the 5th floor of the MBKS building.
Dr Sim urged the councillors to work together for the people of Kuching as they are the front liners of the council.
He said they must be well versed with the council issues like rubbish collection, grass cutting, drainage clog, street lights and also potholes and many more,” he added.
Ten of the councillors were re-appointed – five from Parti Bumiputra Bersatu (PBB),two from United People’s Party (UPP) , two from Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) and one from Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP). The rest are new faces.
The 13 councillors from SUPP are Bong Lian Huan, Phillip Liaw Kian Sin, Chai Kueh Khun, Kho Teck Wan, Lu Cho Heng, Ong Chee Chiang, Lim Swee Chiaw, Jong Yean Pin, Mok Chuang Ping, Goh Tze Hui (re-appointed), Patrick Gordon Song, Lau Sie Tung and Katherine Voon Yian Wei.
