Mayor Miri, Adam Yi: Do not put out fake messages on social media on dog catchers
Miri City Council (MCC) Mayor, Adam Yii condemned the initiator of the Face book message falsely accusing the MCC Dog Catching Teams of shooting dogs within the house compound and subsequent viral of this false and slanderous message in the last two days.
Yii said after an internal investigation it was confirmed that the slanderous accusation was completely untrue as the said dog was outside the gate.
Asking netigens not to go overboard, Yii said common sense show that if a dog was shot in a compound, how will they retrieve it.
He added that MCC has not received any report nor complaint on MCC Dog Catching teams shooting dogs within people’s compound.
“Dog owners are advised to immediately report to MCC if such shooting ever occur. The Council’s Dog Catching teams are trained and they have to comply with standard operating procedures. There are clear instructions to them to only catch dogs roaming on the streets and in public places and not to intrude into any private compound,” he stated.
At the mean time, Yii said MCC will have to intensify its efforts in Miri as the latest news released by State Disaster Committee confirmed that airport area and Kuala Baram had also detected rabies positive dogs.
In the campaign to bring rabies outbreak in Miri under control, MCC would need the full support, understanding and cooperation from the public. And MCC will always place human lives above all else.
Therefore, MCC strongly condemned these perpectrators of falsehood and slander to distract and frustrate MCC efforts to safeguard Miri people.
