3rd Mile Market first to adopt Maybank QRPay
Members of the public can now pay for their groceries through the convenient and seamless nature of Maybank QRPay, at the 3rd Mile Market by scanning a quick response (QR) code with their smartphones.
Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian said the Maybank QRPay is similar to that of Alipay, China’s leading third-party online payment platform as this new digital initiative by the bank allows customers to instantly pay for products and services while merchants will benefit from cashless transactions.
Dr. Sim said our Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg has been stressing on digital economy and we are very pleased that the 3rd Mile Market here now features a cashless payment system with Maybank QRPay so customers can pay for their purchase even if it’s only RM1. He added that there are lots of advantages of cashless payment not only for the customers and sellers but also the government.
He added that for the sellers, they don’t have to worry about having to make change or getting counterfeit money while customers will not have to worry about losing their money and they will have a record on what they have purchased.
The 3rd Mile Market is the first to use the Maybank QRPay in the state and for a start, three sellers at the market are now able to accept payments through the system. However, Dr. Sim said it is up to the sellers to want to use such mode of payment.
