Dato Sebastian winning back the seat from DAP
Piasau new state assemblyman Dato Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew never expected to win back the seat from DAP, and winning it with a 2,112-vote majority.
Ting, 66, garnered 7,799 votes while the incumbent Alan Ling Sie Keong from DAP polled 5,687 votes.
The former political secretary to Tan Sri Peter Chin Fah Kui, who was Miri MP from 2004 until 2013, said his hard work in serving the area for more than a decade has paid off.
Speaking to reporters after winning the seat, he said despite losing when he contested the Miri parliamentary seat in the 2013 General Election, he never gave up in serving the area.
In the general election, he lost to PKR candidate Michael Teo Yu Keng. He polled 24,917 votes as compared to Teo who garnered 26,909 votes. Teo by a majority of 1,992 votes.
The SUPP Secretary-General said Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem’s effort to win over Chinese voters had borne fruit and helped him in winning the seat.
He also thanked the Piasau voters for giving him the chance to continue to serve them.
