Batu Kawa SPM high achievers receive awards

A total of 160 students from the Batu Kawa constituency who sat for the Malaysian Certificate of Education (SPM) examination were recently honoured with awards and certificates.

The presentation ceremony was officiated by Sarawak Deputy Premier and Batu Kawa assemblyman Datuk Patinggi Dr Sim Kui Hian.

According to him, the number of recipients showed a significant increase from 117 last year, reflecting a steady rise in the number of high achieving students from the constituency in national examinations.

All award recipients scored at least 5As and were students from schools such as SMK Batu Kawa and SMK Jalan Arang. All are residents of the Batu Kawa constituency.

Dr Sim expressed appreciation to parents and teachers for their dedication in nurturing students, noting that their contributions play an important role in Sarawak’s development.

“We look ahead to 2030, when Sarawak will be very different from 2025. The Post Covid Development Strategy 2030 is not just about achieving targets quickly, but more importantly about ensuring sustainable outcomes,” he said during the ceremony held at Jalan Stapok.

He added that Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has allocated a significant portion of the state’s annual revenue to education to drive talent development, which is a key pillar in building Sarawak’s future.

Dr Sim also encouraged the younger generation to be wise and discerning, especially in resisting misinformation while contributing to the state’s progress.
“Wherever you go in the future, remember that Sarawak is your home and continue to contribute to its development,” he reminded the students.

He added that the Sarawak government continues to support students through various incentives and welfare initiatives, including providing free tertiary education at five state owned universities.
