TERAS (Parti Tenaga Rakyat Sarawak) was never, is never and will never be a BN component party. It is clearly stated in the constitution that there must be UNANIMOUS consent from every single BN component party before any political party’s application to join Barisan is accepted, which literally means, if there was even one objection from any party, the application will be rejected.

Just late last month, SUPP, PRS and SPDP formed an alliance and made a pact to back each other and would go all out against TERAS’s application to join Barisan. Not only that, MCA and GERAKAN, another two major Barisan component parties had also declared their support to SUPP, PRS and SPDP by saying “NO” to TERAS’s move to join Barisan Nasional.

It is apparent that TERAS has failed to gain approval from not only one but several Barisan component parties. Hence, SUPP Central Youth Chairman Tan Kai would like the right honourable Tan Sri William Mawan to make it clear to the general public, if TERAS’s application has been officially approved by BN both at state and federal level.

“There has been strong objection from so many BN component parties and their top leaders, not forgetting Sarawak Chief Minister YAB Tan Sri Datuk Amar Haji Adenan Satem’s repeated assurances, that TERAS must gain unanimous consent from all component parties first, before its acceptance is approved. This is the Barisan spirit that all BN component parties have observed and defer to.”

“However, right honourable Tan Sri William Mawan is a seasoned politician and still a member of the state cabinet. Hence, he should not be vague in his statements. If TERAS has been officially accepted into the Barisan big family, I would like to know in which BN meeting the party’s application was officially approved, state or federal? His statements must be credible and not misleading. TERAS is not BN as far as I know. If it is, then Tan Sri William Mawan must show the evidence in black and white to prove his statement.”

Tan Sri William Mawan claimed that TERAS is a BN component party and those who denied it were trying to confuse the public when he was attending a Tuai Rumah Appointment Ceremony yesterday in Sri Aman. The news was carried and published in one of the English dailies today.
