New record of 200,000 visitors to the Kuching Intercultural Mooncake festival

The 17th Kuching Intercultural Mooncake Festival which ended on the 24th Sept broke a new record of having 200,000 visitors this year during its 8 days celebration at the Carpenter street.

Organising Chairman, Sim Kiang Chiok thanked all the participants, be it in the arts and culture performances, the stall operators including those from Brunei and Indonesia, the street magicians and dancers, the Teochew Chinese orchestra, Han Clothes exhibitors, Calligraphy workshop between Masters from our Malaysia and Fushan, China.

He also announced the winner of the halal mooncake making competition winner to be Siti Aisyah Bt Abdullah who was also the last year champion. The prize was presented by Tun Sallahudin and Toh Puan Nokiah witnessed by the Consul General to China, Mr and Mrs  Cheng Guanzhong , invited guests and Master Chef, Goh Ah Seng who conducted the competition.

Sim said over 20 competitors and many Malay ladies from the Pantai Damai area joined this 2nd competition since it was first introduced last year. The event was held in Merdeka Plaza on the  September 22 and the organiser and competitors were glad that they were able to share their culinary arts among all Sarawakian to promote better understanding and mutual respect among the different races .

The festival is over and Sim pointed out that he is glad that many Sarawakian of different ethnic origin have joined this celebration of Unity in Diversity  in the City of Unity at the longest street festival in Kuching.
