Preventing rabies from spreading
Miri Municipal council Mayor, Adam Yii disclosed that a total of 921 strays from various parts of Miri had been captured to curb the spread of rabies.
Yii said two areas in Miri, Piasau Jaya and Lutong Shell, were confirmed to be infected by the rabies disease on Thursday.
He said the Miri council had been working diligently to avoid Miri being affected but as it was unfortunate that it has happened, he said, they should now work towards curbing the disease from further spreading.
Yii said he needs the assistance and co-operation of all Mirian to stop the spread by doing the necessaries. Flyers, he said, has been distributed through social media to tell the people on the ‘do’s’ and ‘don’t’.
“As in August, the Council have Issued 2,369 licenses (male 1,394, bitch 975). For dog owners, they have to ensure their pets are vaccinated and not to let their dogs out of their houses. In case of anyone bitten, they should seek medical help immediately. We are serious in tackling stray dog issue and will redouble our effort.
Please do not abandone your pets but call up the vet for assistance,” he added.
Yii also advised Mirian not to take out stray from affected area and put them elsewhere.
