Public holiday for Sarawak on polling day
The Sarawak state government has declared May 9, 2018 as an additional public holiday throughout Sarawak to enable the people to exercise their democratic rights to vote on the polling day of the 14th General Election.
“Following the announcement by the Election Commission (EC) that polling day for the 14th General Election falls on Wednesday, 9th May 2018, the State Government has decided that an additional public holiday be declared throughout Sarawak on that day to enable the rakyat to exercise their democratic rights to vote,” the Sarawak Chief Minister’s Office stated in a press statement today.
This declaration is made pursuant to section 5 of the Public Holidays Ordinance [Cap.8 (1958 Ed.)], the Sarawak Chief Minister’s Office added.
