Helping out with citizen’s certificate
Leonard Lim, born to a Sarawakian father and an Indonesian mother 12 years ago, has been stateless all this while.
Though a non-citizen, Leonard is enrolled as a pupil at SJK Kwang Chien here, but without a national identity document, he is worried of not being accepted into secondary school next year.
His worries are now things of the past. Yesterday, the National Registration Dept (NRD) office here informed him that his application for Malaysian citizenship has been approved.
Accompanied by his father, Lim Boon Lai and Repok assemblyman Dato Sri Huang Tiong Sii, Leonard went to the NRD office here yesterday to collect his citizen’s certificates, thanks to Huang for bringing up Leonard’s problem to the attention of the NRD.
“I am very grateful to Huang for helping to solve my only child’s citizenship status. With the citizenship certificate, I will be able to apply for his identity card (MyKad),” Boon Lai said.
Boon Lai also thanked the officer in-charge of the NRD office here, Ali Hassan, for expediting his son’s citizenship application, thus enabling him to enroll in secondary school next year.
