Donations from Deputy Prime Minister for rabies victims

The sad situation caused by the rabid outbreak in Serian saw some light during the visit of the Deputy Prime Minister to Sarawak.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi yesterday gave RM60,000 to the parents of the late siblings who died of rabies early this month.

Zahid presented  the donation to the victims’ parents, Mazlan Puzan and Elisa John, at the Hornbill skyways in the presence of DCM Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Local Minister and Minister of Housing, Senator Datuk Dr. Sim Kui Hian.

Officials said it was Zahid’s personal donation to the family, with RM58,000 out of the RM60,000  to be used to build the family’s new house.

The parents of the two deceased siblings expressed their gratitude to Zahid.

So far, six villages in Serian have been declared as rabies-infected areas.

The rabies has claimed the life of a 7 year old girl from Gedong today.

The fourth victim, a five-year-old girl from Kampung Ampungan, showed symptoms of fever and had earlier complained of pain on her left arm. She appeared lethargic on July 3.
