Religion should promote unity and not create division within society
Senator Datuk Dr. Sim Kui Hian said religion should be used to promote unity and not to create division within the multi religious, racial and cultural society in the country.
Speaking at the Chinese New Year Open House organised by Malaysia Buddhist Association Sarawak Branch here yesterday, Dr Sim, who is State Local Government Minister and also Batu Kawah assemblyman, said it took a lot of effort, time, love and respect for the forefathers of this country to build unity among Malaysians.
He warned that it takes one or two persons to create havoc and disunity thus in Sarawak, we are very fortunate that we are united and must remain so.
While a ‘purple rally’ was held in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday in support of a controversial Bill to strengthen the Syariah Court’s power in the country, Dr. Sim said Sarawak state will reject it as the late Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem and now Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg has assured us that religious freedom in Sarawak will always be respected. This, he added, does not mean that Sarawakian do not respect the Muslim.
