Helping our Miri fire victims
Piasau State Assemblyman, Dato’ Sebastian Ting called on several government agencies to meet up at a coffee shop yesterday morning near the burned shop houses at Beautiful Jade centre, Miri to discuss on how best to help the affected shopkeepers.
Ting said a shop owner, Simon Tan called him on Saturday to help as they had no electricity and they were anxious to clean and start their business.
With the affected six shop owners and shopkeepers, Ting met them with officers from Bomba, Police, district office, SEB, council and Welfare department.
The shop owners were able to air their concern and the officers to render a hand.
Ting said it was a fruitful meeting and with the representatives there, the shop owners knew who to contact for help. He said it was unfortunate that the fire two days ago had caused a loss of life where a student was killed when she jumped from the shop house.
He said it was a Sunday and thanked the government officers for turning up to give assistance.
The Bomba, said Ting had completed their investigation yesterday and they allow the shopkeepers to move to the upper floors to do their cleaning up.
The burned shops were constructed in the 70s. Ting called to all the old shop houses to ensure that they had proper firewalls to protect lives and properties in case of fire.
