Sarawakian deserve what is theirs
Secretary general of Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Dato’ Sebastian Ting who is Piasau State assemblyman, said he is happy that the State government has taken the step of not issuing working permits for the Petronas non Sarawakian staff who took over the jobs of Sarawakians after they were retrenched.
Ting said it is high time, Sarawakians is taking into consideration not only in Petronas but in all gas and oil companies. After all oil is Sarawak own natural resource.
He said Sarawakians has been neglected for a long while and it is time that they are given priority. He said Shell Sarawak hired a lot of capable Sarawakians when oil was first discovered in 1910 in Miri. “Over these years, we have proven we are capable so there is no question of Sarawakian being unable to do the job,” he said.
Ting said the Chief Minister has also fight for RM2.1 billion contracts of oil to be given to Sarawak. He said the public is also interested to know how much of the contract has been given out to local companies. He hoped that this will not only be given to listed companies but small medium companies so that the economy will improve in Miri and Bintulu.
“Whenever something is done in Sarawak, there must be local content to ensure that Sarawakians played a role,” he added.
