SUPP open house receives overwhelming support

The SUPP open house this morning at the party’s headquarters has its own party leaders taken aback by the huge crowd of about 4,000 who came as early as 9 am until past 1 pm.
The crowd that thronged in was from all races and religion, a true 1 Malaysia spirit that could only be seen prominently in Sarawak.
Party President, Tan Sri Peter Chin was amazed at the number of the turnout and was happy to note that not only the people of all walks were there but a great number of the party’s members including old comrades were at the open house to show their moral support.
He was pleased with the presence of his Excellency, Tun Datuk Patinggi Abang Haji Mahamad Salahuddin and wife, Pehin Sri Taib Mahmud and Puan Sri Ragad Kurdi who made time to visit them.
Chin said the good sunny weather with the sun shining this morning is a good omen for the party and the show of support from members and older cadre despite the party’s crisis touched him greatly. He said many expressed their wishes and hope that the party would not be de-registered.
Despite the busy Chinese New year’s planning, Chin said they had got together the legal team and would forward their letter of appeal to the ROS this coming Monday. The due date for the appeal is before February 6th. Chin’s own branch, Bekenu and that of Piasau, were de-registered early this month.
He said with so many good wishes for the party since this month, he believed the matter would be resolved.
Chin has called on to the Barisan Nasional component parties to work with them to help lift them out of the crisis in the spirit of BN. He said many have responded positively and believed that the matter would be solved. “If there is will, there is a way. With so many good wishes from everyone, I firmly believed that the matter would be solved,” he added.
Secretary General of the party, Dr. Sim Kui Hian was extremely pleased with the crowds that gathered at the party headquarters.
“Since the last five years, we struggled on but today the overwhelming crowd has lifted our spirit and we will continue to strive on whole heartedly. The people and our members are behind us. They are slowly coming back. It is really a good start for SUPP,” he added.
Publicity Chief, Dato’ Sebastian Ting said he was also taken aback by this year’s huge turnout at the open house. “The show of support is amazing and I want to thank all who has come this morning. Many said they came as they feared that the party would be de-registered and they had spoken to the President to ensure that will not happen as they feel that SUPP is still relevant to the people. I am touched by the sentiment of such show of support from the people.
Among those who turned up at the open house were Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi Alfred Jabu, Minister of Industrial Development, PRS President, Tan Sri James Masing, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah, Datuk Amar Abang Johari, Datuk Amar Mohd Morshid Ghani, Datuk Rohani Abdul Karim, Datuk Dr. Wan Junaidi and Sharifah Shashida and Haji Julaihi Narawi.
