A political career is not easy – Amy
SUPP Former Woman Central Chief, Amy Tnay in her final farewell speech at the Woman’s TDC said it was not an easy task when she took over the post since 2011.
She said it was a difficult time and the party was facing the 13th general election.
We asked ourselves how to get the people to support us and most of our team were then quite ‘green’ politically.
Amy said they came up with two projects, one to help the urban poor to do farming and earn their own keep and another to start a Welfare team.
“A volunteer had rented out a 3 acre open space, Central Wanita seeking all resources, land reclamation, fund collection, providing
tools, soil, vegetable seed and fertilizer, recruiting local poor families, including single mothers, rural migrants, etc. Through the efforts and operations for some time, there are now 7 families who are earning more than thousands of extra income per month,”
The start of the Welfare team was formed by five Southern Branches which including Kuching, Pending, Batu Lintang, Batu Kawa and Kota Sentosa branch.
Every Monday and Friday afternoon at 2.00pm, Central Wanita distributed the welfare application form, helped to fill the form and prepared related documents at SUPP Headquarters. A person is put in charge to bring applicants to the Welfare Department every Wednesday at 2.00pm. The person in charge will help to translate and help them to successfully obtain the welfare benefit, thereby improving family economic problems.
Amy said a year has passed and the Welfare Team had help more than hundreds of the poor.
She said the TDC is a day of excitement with a new Central Chief, Datin Jennifer Alice Chee whom she believed will do a good job.
