Wilfred Yap Warns DAP After Sabah Election Defeat

GPS State assemblyman for Kota Sentosa and SUPP Kota Sentosa Branch chairman Wilfred Yap has responded to recent remarks by Sarawak Pakatan Harapan and DAP leaders following their complete loss in all eight urban seats contested in the Sabah state election.

Yap said the opposition’s call for a sincere apology to voters only reinforces a long-standing reality that DAP has repeatedly failed to fulfil the promises it makes, especially in urban and Chinese-majority areas. He added that apologising after every election may appear humble but does not change the pattern of disappointment faced by voters.

He stressed that the core problem is not communication or creative messaging, as claimed by DAP leaders, but actual performance.

According to him, despite holding forty parliamentary seats and being a major part of the Federal Government, DAP has been unable to influence national policies or address issues affecting ordinary Malaysians. Yap said that if a party with such a large bloc of MPs still cannot shape or defend policies that matter to the people, especially the Chinese community, it highlights its lack of political strength and effectiveness.

Yap emphasised that Sarawakians must acknowledge what truly works for the state. Only SUPP, within the GPS Government, has consistently delivered tangible results that improve people’s daily lives. He cited development projects, support for Chinese schools, funding for community organisations, SME assistance and improvements to roads, lighting, drainage and basic infrastructure as proof of GPS’ track record.

“These achievements are possible because SUPP is part of the GPS government that makes real decisions and secures real resources for the community,” he said.

Yap added that the Chinese community does not need repeated apologies or political theatrics brought in from the peninsula. Instead, he said Sarawak needs results, stability and consistent delivery.

“Sarawak continues to progress because GPS remains united, focused and free from divisive politics. SUPP ensures Chinese voices are represented within a stable governing coalition where decisions are made in the best interests of Sarawak,” he said.

He said the outcome in Sabah shows that voters have grown tired of parties that overpromise, underdeliver and then apologise.

“Sarawakians deserve better. SUPP and GPS will continue prioritising real work over rhetoric and delivery over drama. We remain committed to safeguarding the interests of the Chinese community and all Sarawakians through political stability, steady development and effective governance,” he added.
