MCC Mayor Adam Yii officiates new Lutong Library

Miri City Council new Lutong Community Library situated at the first floor of Myy Mall at Bandar Lutong is now officially open to public, said Miri Municipal Council Mayor, Adam Yii Siew Sang.

The Council Lutong Branch Library was previously located at Jalan Kampung Tulang, Lutong, which was one-time a Shell Staff Quarters. In view of various constraints, the Lutong Branch Library could not be operational effectively thus, the Council has been looking for a more suitable site with affordable cost of expenditure for building a new branch library.

Yii expressed his gratitude to council relevant Standing Committee and the Lutong Library Task Force for all for the initiative, dedication and great efforts in redeveloped of MCC Lutong Community Library.

“It is indeed an innovative approach of relocating the Lutong Branch at Myy Mall Lutong. As we all know, at this present world with high emphasis on digital technology, the reading of books alone in a library is no longer can attract the young people. For most of us, we obtain our information, news and entertainments through the use of computer, handphone and other gadgets. Nevertheless, I personally feel that reading of books or printed materials are still relevant to our society apart from reading pleasure in the modern world. Therefore, we should continue to promote reading. Nevertheless, in order to attract more readers especially from the younger generation, we should be innovative and creative in our approach and, in this respect, the Council’s relevant Standing Committee and sections concerned have succeeded, ” he added.

The new Lutong Community will have multiple functions unlike the conventional type of library. What the new community library can offer include;

Sirkulasi/Seasonal Area (Multi-sensory Area) – Front Desk cum Reception with Audio Video enhancements.

Games Room – provide and equip with facilities for carrying out e-sport which is currently popular among the youths.

Tutorial Corner – provide service to school students who are unable to attend tuition class in private tuition centres.

Maker Space – open space provided with facilities like computer preinstalled with soft wares/applications and complete with 3D printer which can inspire creativity and innovation among young children.

Yii hoped that the Lutong Community will find this is an ideal place to spend their leisure time apart from shopping in the same venue. For the youths especially this could be a place to spend their productive times and invest their times on reading and healthy hobby.
