砂旅游、创意产业及表演艺术部副部长拿督陈超耀表示，砂拉越从二战日本占领下解放的历史必须被持续铭记，并传承给年轻一代，避免被遗忘。 他说，许多人并不了解当年砂拉越人民所经历的苦难，例如在日军占领时期，峇都林当集中营曾关押约3000名战俘，显示当时社会所面对的巨大痛苦，这是砂拉越历史上的黑暗一页。 “这就是砂拉越的历史，我们必须记得，也必须不断讲述这些故事，让砂拉越的年轻一代铭记在那个艰难时期是谁帮助我们，把我们从日本殖民的黑暗岁月中解放出来。我们必须永远心怀感恩，铭记这些功绩与牺牲。” 他是在周四晚出席砂拉越摆脱日本占领80周年纪念晚宴时致词时作出上述表示。 陈超耀说，这段历史充满情感，每当回顾当年砂拉越人民所承受的痛苦，心中总是百感交集。他强调，如今砂拉越能在宗教与种族多元中享有和平与和谐生活，全赖先辈们当年为解放砂拉越所做出的牺牲。

二战时期砂拉越摆脱日军占领纪念碑，如今雄伟地矗立在古晋朋岭的Pending Point。 砂拉越副总理拿督阿玛沈桂贤医生表示，这座纪念碑是为了纪念砂拉越于1945年9月11日摆脱日军占领80周年而建立，当时日军向澳洲陆军准将托马斯正式投降的地点。 他说，这座纪念碑象征着对澳洲、英国、纽西兰和加拿大的盟军，以及在三年多的日治时期饱受苦难的砂拉越当地战士和人民的敬意。 “这座纪念碑是一个承诺，他们的牺牲不会被遗忘。它也提醒我们，今天享有的和平与自由必须得到维护，并传承给子孙后代。” 他周四为纪念碑主持落成典礼时，如是说。 他也向古晋南市市政局（MBKS）和砂拉越旅游、创意产业与表演艺术部（MTCP）成功建造这座纪念碑表示感谢，它不仅保存了历史，还成为文化遗产教育中心和旅游景点。 拿督阿玛沈桂贤医生强调，这座纪念碑将继续提醒社会，和平、自由和安全来之不易，需要勇气、智慧和团结才能守护。 出席仪式的还有砂拉越旅游、创意产业与表演艺术部部长拿督斯里阿都拉林、砂拉越旅游、创意产业与表演艺术部副部长拿督陈超耀、古晋南市市长拿督黄鸿圣和丹绒拿督区立法议员阿兹祖、砂拉越副政府秘书（行动）拿督许赞麒及其他贵宾。
