Sebastian Ting calls to public to donate blood to save lives
Members of the public are encouraged to make blood donation a regular habit to help ensure adequate blood supplies for patients, especially during medical emergencies.
Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting, who is also Sarawak Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, said blood donation was a simple act of giving that could make a significant difference to patients’ lives, particularly in critical situations.
He said every blood donor was an “unsung hero” as the blood donated could become a source of hope for those in need.
“Blood donation should not be a one-off charitable activity. More eligible individuals should regard it as a regular form of community service and contribute to society,” he said.
Ting said this when met by the media after attending the “A Gift of Life” blood donation campaign at Bintang Megamall in Miri yesterday.
He also stressed that the participation of businesses and the media was important in raising public awareness of charitable activities and public health issues.
He said cooperation among businesses, the media, medical institutions and the public could further expand the impact of charitable initiatives on the community.
“Today’s blood donation campaign is a good example, with businesses, the media, medical institutions and the public coming together to provide support and cooperation,” he said.
Ting also encouraged young people to actively participate in blood donation and other community activities to develop a greater sense of social responsibility and a spirit of serving the community.
At the same time, he advised first-time donors not to be afraid, as blood donation would only proceed after donors met the relevant eligibility requirements and completed the required health screening.
He hoped similar activities could continue to be organised at the community level to encourage blood donation as a regular social practice and raise public awareness of the importance of donating blood regularly.
