RM950,000 grant supports Agape Grace Methodist Church construction

Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting today handed over a RM950,000 grant from the Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) under the Sarawak Premier’s Department to Agape Grace Methodist Church to support its construction project.

The church’s pastor, Lin Yi Tao, said the project has an estimated total cost of RM5.8 million and is currently about 60 per cent complete. It is expected to be completed by mid-2027.

Ting said the grant was provided by Unifor as part of the state government’s support for the construction of the church.

He said the Sarawak Government continued to support the development of various religious and faith-based organisations through funding to improve and upgrade places of worship and provide better facilities for their congregations.

“Places of worship are not only venues for religious activities, but also important platforms for bringing communities together, encouraging interaction among different groups and strengthening social harmony,” he said.

Ting hoped the grant would help Agape Grace Methodist Church advance its construction work and bring long-term benefits to its congregation and the surrounding community.

He also thanked Unifor for its continued support for religious organisations, which he said reflected Sarawak’s commitment to diversity, inclusiveness and harmony.
