Wilfred Yap Responds to Residents’ Complaints of Low Water Pressure at Lorong 5, Jalan Sungai Tapang
Kota Sentosa Assemblyman YB Wilfred Yap today visited Lorong 5, Jalan Sungai Tapang together with Penghulu Lai Boon Khee, officers from Sarawak Water and the Jabatan Bekalan Air Luar Bandar following complaints from residents regarding persistent low water pressure affecting more than 20 households.
During the site inspection, the technical officers discovered two burst water pipes, which were identified as one of the causes of the low water pressure experienced by residents. Sarawak Water has confirmed that repair works to the burst pipes will be carried out as soon as possible to restore the water supply to normal levels.
Following a further assessment of the ageing water supply infrastructure in the area and as a long term measure, Yap requested Sarawak Water to prepare a detailed costing and Bill of Quantities (BQ) for the replacement of the old water piping along Lorong 5, Jalan Sungai Tapang.
“The existing water pipes have served the area for many years and are showing signs of deterioration. While repairing the burst pipes will address the immediate issue, replacing the ageing pipeline is the long-term solution to ensure a more reliable water supply for the residents,” said Yap.
According to the preliminary assessment by Sarawak Water, the estimated cost of replacing the old water pipeline is approximately RM250,000.
Yap said that upon receiving the detailed Bill of Quantities from Sarawak Water, he will apply for funding under his Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) allocation to undertake the pipeline replacement project.
“The welfare of residents remains my priority. Access to a stable and reliable water supply is a basic necessity, and I will continue working closely with the relevant agencies to secure the necessary funding and expedite the implementation of this project,” he added.
He assured the affected residents that he will continue to monitor the progress of both the immediate repair works and the proposed pipeline replacement project until the matter is fully resolved.
