Wilfred Yap calls for public cooperation to stop illegal dumping at Lorong 5, Jalan Sungai Tapang

Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap has called on the public to work together to stop illegal dumping at the entrance of Lorong 5, Jalan Sungai Tapang, describing the recurring problem as a waste of public resources.

Yap visited the site today with Penghulu Lai Boon Khee to meet residents and assess the ongoing issue of indiscriminate waste disposal.
During the visit, residents voiced their frustration that illegal dumping has continued despite repeated clean up operations carried out by the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) and Trienekens.

Yap said the site has been cleared more than five times, but irresponsible individuals continue to dump household waste, bulky items, construction debris and other rubbish at the same location.

He noted that MPP has installed warning signboards to remind the public that illegal dumping is an offence, but the notices have failed to deter offenders.

“The repeated clean up works require significant manpower, machinery and public funds that could otherwise be used to improve public facilities and services within the constituency,” he said.

Yap stressed that keeping the environment clean is a shared responsibility and urged residents to dispose of their rubbish only at designated collection points.

He also encouraged members of the public who witness illegal dumping to take photographs of the offenders or their vehicles and report the matter to him or the relevant authorities so that enforcement action can be taken.

“Keeping Kota Sentosa clean requires the collective effort of everyone. A clean neighbourhood not only provides a healthier living environment but also reflects the civic responsibility and pride of the community,” he said.
