SUPP member, Lai Huat Choi’s demise a loss to the party, said Deputy Premier, Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian

Prof. Lai Huat Choi who graduated in PhD in Philosophy (Physical Chemistry) last month passed away yesterday morning in Kuala Lumpur after a short sickness.

SUPP Party President, Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian said it was a shock to hear to hear of the passing of Lai who had done so much for the youth and the party. He said it is indeed a great loss to Sarawak for a fine young man who could contributed more and touched more lives with his selfless contributions.

Lai was in Sarawak United Peoples’ (SUPP) Education bureau where he helped students on education counseling services and related issues.

Unimas students too where Lai coached a number of them were devastated by his passing.

A student, Olivia Trianna Nathan said Lai was one of the best teacher and described him as being very kind, humbled and committed to his works. “He never hesitated to respond to any questions from his students. He is very dedicated and will be missed by many of his students,” she said.

Another said he was always patient and would assist anyone who reached out to him.

His last message to his students was to tell them that he was suffering from medical problems and his classes were all cancelled until further notice.

In his texted messages he stated: Good luck in your chemistry love story, remember not to show off, be humble, always work hard and never give up.

According to friends, Lai was devastated upon his mother’s passing before he got his PhD. He was said to be closed to both his parents.

He is survived by a brother in Singapore and a sister in KL.
