Rest room in Canada Hill to be completed in a weeks’ time
The rest room for Canada Hill is behind schedule for a week due to the holidays and raining season, said Assistant Tourism Minister, Datuk Sebastian Ting.
Ting, who is also Piasau state assemblyman, went to the area to check on the work completion of the restroom this morning. He said there is water available already for washing and the electricity will be installed any time now.
Ting said Canada Hill is a good place for tourists besides a recreational spot for locals. He said Canada Hill is near the city and offers an excellent view of Miri and the surrounding area. The historical Oil Well No. 1, known as the “Grand Old Lady”, is situated on top of Canada Hill. It was here that oil was first struck by Sarawak Shell in 1910.
The place also houses the Petroleum Museum, which traces the history and technological development of the oil and gas industries in Malaysia. Ting pointed out that for the students going into the oil and gas industry, it would be a good learning ground for them to learn about the history of how Miri first oil well was established in 1910.
As part of his manifesto, Ting added that having a healthy lifestyle should be a goal for Mirians and Canada Hill offered a place for people to walk around during the evenings and weekends where a number of tourists would frequent the place.
