SUPP Pending Women on the need to respect women
Dewan Rakyat had passed the Sexual Offense Against Children Bill 2017 yesterday. The bill which aims at protecting children under the age of 18 from sexual crimes are the result of hard work and dedication by many law makers, NGOs and women bodies.
It was also a motion raised by SUPP Pending Branch and resolved in the last SUPP’s general meeting. It is always SUPP’s stance in supporting stringent laws against child sexual crime. Pending Women Section would like to express our sincere gratitude to all who had helped in the passing of the bill.
This good news however is overshadowed by the appalling statement made by Tasek Gelugor’s MP who claimed ‘RAPE VICTIMS CAN HAVE GOOD LIFE IF THEY MARRY THE RAPIST”.
SUPP Pending Women Section would like to express our strongest disagreement with YB Shabudin Yahaya’s comment. In this day and age, his ignorant view is totally disgusting and disrespectful to all women and girls! He is not fit to be a leader.
We would like to urge parents to raise sons to respect women; and to raise daughters to be brave and stand up against injustice and abuse. To all the women in Sarawak, let’s work together for our children so they grow up with love and encouragement. This is something we must do.
