SUPP Public Complaints Bureau (SPCB)

SUPP recently set up a Public Complaints Bureau (SPCB) headed by Wilfred Yap to enhance public confidence in competency, accountability, transparency (high quality) in public administration by consistently ensuring improving public services in SARAWAK which meet the highest standards of public administration.

SPCB aims to bring this about by providing a trusted, effective and efficient complaint handling service which remedies injustice for individuals resulting from inefficient or maladministration or service failure.

The main function of SPCB is as a monitoring body to ensure both Federal and State Government Departments, Agencies, Authorities, including the Police and Local Councils, carries out their duties and responsibilities efficiently. SPCB will handle complaints about public services in Sarawak involving both Federal and State Government Departments, Agencies, Authorities including the Police and Local Councils.

However, this does not mean that SPCB will entertain all types of complaints. For the initial start, only complaints on late or lack of response or inaction, unfair practices, mediocre and service failure of Government organizations will be entertained.

On a related matter, a couple (one Malaysian and the other an Indonesian citizen) requested SPCB for assistance as they were facing problems in getting their marriage, conducted in Indonesia, to be registered in Malaysia. SPCB Chief, Wilfred Yap together with Issac Lee who is assisting him,  went to Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara (Bahagian Pendaftaran Perkahwinan) with the couple to assess the situation yesterday. The problem faced by the couple was actually their misunderstanding on the procedures involved in the registration of foreign marriages in Malaysia and the matter have been resolve through the detailed explanation given by the officer on the steps that needs to be taken before the said marriage can be registered in Malaysia.

SPCB would therefore like to advice the public to access Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara’s website at www.jpn.gov.my/en/soalan_lazim/perkahwinan-penceraian for answers for frequently asked questions  concerning the registration of marriages.
