Dr Soon on Dudong branch

Datuk Dr. Soon Choon Teck, the protem Chairman of Dudong branch, Sibu viewed the letter of approval from Registrar of Society (ROS) to set up the Dudong branch  as a bittersweet victory.

Dudong was one of the five new branches where ROS sent the approval letters. The others are Bukit Asset, Nangka, Bawang Assan and Pahlawan.

Dr. Soon said he had tried to apply for a branch in Dudong since seven years ago. He affirmed he is not interested to be a candidate in any election, but would  groom someone younger to be the future candidate.

Dr. Soon, who got into an internal squabble with the then Sibu branch chairman, Datuk Sri Wong Soon Koh, added that the registration of the Dudong branch was supposedly to be formed in 2007 and an approval letter was obtained then.

“We need 90 days to get our branch in order and to form the first general meeting. We had already over 800 members. We even got our approval letter but as it was only a branch, we have to go through the Secretary general of the Central party committee to sign and approve before it gets to the ROS. Alas, at that time, due to the internal squabble in the central region, the then President Tan Sri Dr. George Chan and Datuk Sim Kheng Hui never got down to it,” he said.

Dr. Soon, instead of pushing away supporters when the branch was not set up, turned it into a recreational club and used the party quarters as the base for their activities, including celebrating festivals. He said it would be easy for him to revert these members back to the Dudong branch. The only thing he needs to do it to update the name list as some elderly members had passed on.

“What has happened, let it be. It is no use crying over spilled milk. Now we are trying to recruit more young people as we have missed out on the second echelon leaders due to the years wasted on internal conflicts. So the young ones will be have a chance to take over.   SUPP is still a great party. We have all the base, 43 branches all over Sarawak. We need to work it to make it better,” he added.

Dr. Soon said SUPP stands for all races. He said even in the last general election, Datuk Tiong Thai King still won in the Dayak areas. We stand a chance. Look at the mess in Pakatan Raykat. People will come to realise PR is not the only party they can rely on due to their internal squabbles. We are now back, stronger than ever ,” he pointed out.
