Adam Yii calls for responsible social media use, rejects online slander and hate speech
Pujut assemblyman and Miri Mayor Adam has called on the public to use social media responsibly, reject online slander and hate speech, and work together to safeguard social unity and harmony.
He reminded the public to remain rational and responsible when using social media, stressing that online platforms should not be abused to attack others or spread unverified negative information.
Yii made the remarks during a grant handover ceremony at the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Pujut Branch Service Centre.
He said that in recent years, some social media platforms have been misused to attack individuals and spread negative and false information, affecting peace and harmony in society.
“We must have the courage to say ‘no’ to this negative political culture and not allow ourselves to be misled or manipulated,” he said.
Yii added that differences of opinion should be expressed through proper channels instead of spreading false information or launching personal attacks online.
He urged the public to remain vigilant, assess the authenticity of information rationally, and promote positive messages to help maintain social stability.
He emphasised that unity is not easy to build but can be easily destroyed, and therefore everyone must stay alert and work together to preserve the harmony that society currently enjoys.
