Wilfred Yap opens Xiang Qi & Cultural Exchange Forum 2025
State Assemblyman for Kota Sentosa, Wilfred Yap today officiated the International Xiang Qi & Cultural Exchange Forum 2025 as Guest of Honour.
He commended the Kuching Xiang Qi Association for their dedication in organising an event that not only celebrates the traditional game of Xiang Qi (Chinese Chess) but also fosters cultural understanding and friendship.
“Xiang Qi reflects strategy, wisdom, discipline, and the art of thinking ahead. At its heart, this forum is about more than competition. It is about building bridges across generations, ethnicities, and regions,” he said.
Addressing the younger participants, he encouraged them to view Xiang Qi as a fun yet educational activity that sharpens the mind, builds patience, and nurtures respect for opponents. He also emphasised its value in strengthening family bonds.
Highlighting Sarawak’s multicultural identity, Yap said, “Our strength lies in our diversity. When cultural heritage is nurtured and shared, it becomes a powerful tool for unity.”
The forum brings together players and cultural advocates from Malaysia, China, and Indonesia, providing a platform for exchanging ideas and traditions while showcasing the enduring appeal of Xiang Qi.
