Wilfred Yap Represents Dr Sim Kui Hian at SMSU Solidarity Dinner
Kota Sentosa Assemblyman YB Wilfred Yap represented Deputy Premier and Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government, YB Datuk Amar Dr. Sim Kui Hian, at the Sarawak Medical Services Union (SMSU) Tri-Annual Solidarity Dinner held last night in conjunction with the Union’s 17th Tri-Annual Convention.
In delivering Dr. Sim’s message, Yap conveyed his apologies for not being able to attend the event due to official commitments. He also expressed the Deputy Premier’s deep gratitude to SMSU and all healthcare workers for their dedicated service, especially during the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic.
He stressed that the dinner was not merely a formal gathering but a meaningful show of solidarity and appreciation for Sarawak’s frontline healthcare personnel, doctors, nurses, medical assistants, lab staff, ambulance drivers, and administrative teams who kept the system going when it mattered most. “Sarawak will never forget your sacrifices. You are the backbone of our healthcare system,” he said.
He also outlined the government’s continued efforts under Dr. Sim’s leadership to strengthen public health delivery in the post-pandemic era. These include enhancing rural healthcare access, expanding local training and job placements for Sarawakian health professionals, accelerating digital transformation in healthcare services, and working closely with unions like SMSU to ensure policies are grounded in real-world needs.
Yap expressed full confidence in SMSU’s continued role as the collective voice of Sarawak’s healthcare workforce and congratulated the Union on its successful convention. “Solidarity for Wellbeing, Unity for the Future.
