MPP Chairman, Tan Kai checking on upgrading Works at 3rd Mile Market

The ground floor stalls at the 3rd Mile Market are still currently closed to facilitate the upgrading of the flooring with an anti-slip epoxy flake coating.

MPP Chairman, Tan Kai said this upgrade is part of the improvement works aimed at enhancing the safety aspect of the market. The anti-slip coating provides extra grip, significantly reducing the risk of slips and falls, especially in areas prone to wet conditions.

“A dark colour was chosen for the anti-slip epoxy flake coating to help conceal any scratches or dirt that may accumulate over time due to heavy public use. This ensures the market floor will maintain a clean and presentable appearance, even with regular wear and tear, “he added.

Tan Kai who visited the site went to inspect the progress and condition of the anti-slip epoxy coating. He said the Council has always prioritized the safety aspect of the market, and the application of the anti-slip coating will provide a solution to ensure a safer environment for all visitors and hawkers.

According to him, MPP is closely monitoring the ongoing work to ensure it is completed on time and to a high standard, allowing hawkers and the public to resume their regular business and grocery shopping activities as soon as possible.

The 3rd Mile Market improvement project also included several other upgrades, such as the
installation of a rainwater harvesting system, construction of staircase awnings, replacement of the polycarbonate upper roofing, painting works on the first-floor ceiling and parapet wall, and waterproofing of the upper and lower roof slabs.

The public is encouraged to reach out to MPP Chairman, Councillors, or MPP staff for any updates or clarifications regarding the market’s progress and not to spread unsubstantiated information.
