Datuk Sebastian Ting launches the education and career fair
About 1000 people including students and young adults visited the two-day launching of the 3rd Datuk Sebastian Education and Career Fair held in a hotel in Miri starting Saturday.
Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Datuk Sebastian Ting who officiated at the fair was pleased with the result and said the fair can provide a bigger platform of exposure for school leavers with different interests and inclination.
He said next year, successful businesses will be invited to give talks to let the attendents have a better insight into what the want to do.
Ting said not all students are academically inclined and some are good in business or technical skills while this fair also caters for matching employers with employees.
Thanking the state Education Department, Sosco (Social Security Organisation) and corporations for their strong support, Ting pointed out that this is timely as Sarawak government emphasised on talent development to meet the high demand for skilled workers by 2030, and to meet this objective as it will provide free tertiary education starting 2026 and is establishing five international schools in the state
The fair also brought together a diverse range of universities from Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Canada and the USA.
Job seekers took the opportunity to seek employment at companies from Miri, Bintulu and Peninsular Malaysia during the fair.
