Badminton enthusiasts and aspiring referees in Miri receive training
Badminton enthusiasts and aspiring referees in Miri are set to receive top-notch training from one of the sport’s most distinguished figures. Datuk Anthony Linggian, a prominent figure in the badminton community, will be conducting an Introduction to BAM badminton referee accreditation course in Miri, Sarawak, aiming to elevate the standards of officiating in the region.
Due to the shortage of Qualified Referees in the whole of Malaysia, Miri undertake the opportunity to train more potential Referees from all over Sarawak so that Sarawak is able to organise more tournaments for the benefit of players to gauge their standards. Eventually, S’wak players will stand to gain by producing more potential junior players from tournaments.
This two day course is designed for individuals aspiring to become certified badminton referees, as well as for current referees seeking to enhance their skills and knowledge. The curriculum will cover the latest rules and regulations of the game, practical officiating techniques, and the ethical responsibilities of a referee.
Datuk Anthony Linggian from Sabah brings a wealth of experience to this course. With over 40 years in the sport, he has officiated at numerous international tournaments and served on various badminton committees at both the national and international levels. His expertise and dedication to the sport have earned him recognition as a leading authority in badminton officiating. Had officiated: World Championships, World Juniors, Sudirman Cup, Thomas & Uber Cup, World Universiade Games, Commonwealth Games, Super Series Premiers, Asia Games, Asia Championships & many other Badminton World Federation & Badminton Asia tournaments.

Datuk Anthony Linggian is, (BWF Referee ( RTD), BA / BAM Referee Assessor/ Course Conductor) a renowned badminton referee and educator with decades of experience in the sport. He has played a pivotal role in shaping the standards of badminton officiating globally and continues to contribute to the sport through training and mentorship.
Organizer is extremely happy that YB Dato Dennis Ngau, chairman of Sarawak Tourism board was able to attend the simple opening of the two days course .
YB Dato Dennis was briefed that about 28 participants from Kuching, Sibu, Bintulu, Bekenu, Miri, Lawas and Brunei will be attending the two days course.
