Schools should not be involved in war related issues, says Teck Wan
Secretary to Premier, Kho Teck Wan expressed shocked and concern to learn that all schools under Malaysia Ministry of Education are instructed to organise Solidarity with Palestine Week in school from October 29 to November 3.
Kho said anyone has the freedom to express sympathy and support toward certain country or race, especially when it involves human right.
“However, schools, especially primary and secondary schools should not get involve in matter related to war involving other countries. Students can form their own opinions but the Malaysia Ministry of Education should not involve school children on international conflict, ” she said.
She pointed out that Sarawak Bumi Kenyalang is make up of people from multi-racial and multi-religion backgrounds and to involving school children with international conflicts can potentially create unnecessary frictions among multiracial and multi religious communities.
“I humbly urge the Unity Government led by PM Anwar to separate schools from Politics of War in foreign countries and not to create a precedent as it is not appropriate for primary and secondary school students to get involve in the street politics.
