Deputy Premier, Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian blasts DAP Chong Chieng Jen
DAP Sarawak head Chong Chieng Jen’s statement calling for Sarawakians to make GPS weak is the same twisted and nonsensical arqument that Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) president Voon Lee 1/5 made last month, said Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian.
In a press statement, Dr Sim said the opposite is true as events and our track record since the formation of GPS in 2018 has proven that a strong bloc of MPs from GPS in the Federal Govt has led to more benefits to Sarawak.
“It is common sense understandable to all except to Chong and Voon that: A strong GPS = stronger voice for Sarawak in Federal Govt. A weak GPS = weaker voice for Sarawak in Federal Govt,” he said
He added that a bigger number of Members of Parliament from GPS in the Federal Govt has, can and will bring a stronger and more assertive voice in our demands for Sarawak and all Sarawakians.
” It is with a strong GPS government in Sarawak with a strong voice in the government over the last two terms that the Sarawak government were able to:
- Buy back and fully own Bakun dam from the Federal Government. As a result, Sarawkians enjoy the lowest electricity and water rates in the entire Malaysia.
- Sarawak become fully toll-free in year 2016 and we have already started to enjoy a fully toll-free Pan Borneo Highway that will spur development and our economy for decades to come
- Build up the biggest state reserves of more than RM30 billion- which was what allowed us to provide the best and most comprehensive aid packages in Malaysia to help all Sarawakians during the Covid pandemic, ” he pointed out.
Furthermore, Dr Sim stated that it is proven that it does not benefit Sarawak even if DAP and PH wins more seats here even when they win the Federal Government.
” We have witnessed how Chong and his Sarawak MPs suddenly became timid and voiceless when their PH government and their boss lim Guan Eng bullied Sarawak by cancelling many development projects in Sarawak that were already included in the 2018 budget by cancelling the RM1 billion allocation for Sarawak to repair schools in the 2018 budget and by forcing Sarawak to pay RM1 billion first to the Federal government before they would disburse funds allocated to repair schools in the 2019 budget.
They also did not honour their promise to give back 40% of tax revenues and a 20% share of petroleum royalties to Sarawak.
Dr Sim said Chong and his Sarawak MPs were also completely silent and became cowards when their boss Guan Eng who was Finance Minister then in 2019 had slandered and insulted all Sarawakians when he declared that Sarawak will go bankrupt within 3 years.
He said there is no point in giving votes to DAP and PH.
“All Sarawakians must make sure that GPS is given maximum strength so that we can have maximum voice in the Federal Government to demand what is owed to Sarawak and all the rights that Sarawakians deserve”, he stated.
