Bandar Kuching candidate, Eric Tay Tze Kok ask Kuching people to give him a chance

Kuching needs a lot of changes, be it cosmetic or in terms of improving its infrastructure and facilities, said Bandar Kuching candidate, Eric Tay Tze Kok (GPS-SUPP) in the Unity Night on Sunday at a restaurant.

Tay said from his walkabout in the city, he can see the broken city which calls for maintenance. He cited an example that at every wet market from Pentanak to Batu Lintang to Tabuan Jaya, all are in dire need of improvement.

“That is why I call upon you all to vote me into Parliament so that we can get back much needed funds and allocations to repair this aging city. From drains to public facilities, all are in great need of changes,” he said to the 800 crowd.

Tay also called for more tourists to boost up the economy. HE said during the MCO, many businesses had suffered. As I was there with them already distributing masks and other needs, I understand the situation. Especially those small medium businessmen who have no choice but to close shop. Now that Covid 19 no longer poses a deadly threat, we have to assist them in some ways,” he said.

Besides, small and medium businessmen facing closure, Tay said due to recession, a man’s salary is not enough for many families to get by. He vows to help housewives to earn money while at home. He said with Federal allocations, they can help them learn some skills for them to be self-independent through the Enrichment program. In this day and age, Tay said it is no longer a man’s world. Women need to learn to fend for themselves and families, especially those single parents.

Tay said being a youth himself, he understands the hardship of the younger generation especially those who just graduate. He said it was difficult for them to get a job and many tried to do online business which is not easy too.

“I have many friends in their 20s and 30s and one of them told me that to go online, you need to learn from courses provided which are not free. At times, the fees to learn such skills can be RM20,000. Where can they get RM20,000 when they have not even started their job.” he asked.

Calling the Kuching public to give him a chance to show what he can do for them, Tay assured that he will help fight for more oil and gas royalty while at the same time asked the Federal government to give more sales tax to Sarawak.

From my knowledge since 2018, the Opposition wanted 30% oil royalty and 50 percent sales tax. But, to our dismay, none of the promises made by them were fulfilled despite them being in the government for 22 months.

They claimed that the manifesto is not sacred so how can the Kuching public trust them again with their manifesto this election, he asked.

Tay asked the Kuchingnites not to waste any more five years as he being in GPS which has a strong foundation can help bring what the people needed including autonomy in Education and Health.

“Only with the GPS government and its strong leadership, can we bring back what we deserve all these years,” he added.
