Tan Kai checking out the upgrading roads in Jalan Stephen Yong

Political Secretary to Premier, Tan Kai believed that Member of Parliament positions should be given to those who can bring about development especially infrastructure to their constituents.

Checking out a road upgrading in Jalan Stephen Yong, Tan Kai said many projects in Sarawak are under the jurisdiction of the federal government and this only GPS can deliver such projects to the public.

He said Sarawak needs more such MPs who can really strive for Sarawak’s development in the Parliament.

The stretch of road St Stephen Yong, he added is under the jurisdiction of the Federal Public Works Bureau, and the relevant maintenance, upgrading and even expansion funds should be borne by the federal government.

He explained that under this upgrading road which started in August, the stretch of roads from Stephen Yong to Batu Kitang is more than four kilometers long.

Work on it started in August this year from 8p m to 4 am and is expected to be completed by October 14. Tan Kai added that the road is used by countless heavy vehicles daily, thus it is important to further upgrade or even expand it.

Although there are still many development projects in Sarawak, especially federal projects, which require applications and funding from the federal government, Sarawak government has been responsible by seeking more funding for development from the federal government.

“We feel regretful that Sarawak’s Pakatan Harapan MPs do not seem to be doing their job, especially during the Pakatan Harapan government, when Sarawak had a deputy federal minister of Pakatan Harapan, they didn’t seem to want to get more federal funding for Sarawak and some development plans have been canceled and grants have even been removed, ” said Tan Kai.

He also urged road users to be careful when driving along the stretch of roads as at times there could be heavy machinery parked at the side of the road.
