Datuk Sebastian Ting on new youth wing

Secretary-General of SUPP, Datuk Sebastian Ting said Sarawak United Peoples party (SUPP) is looking to establish a new Youth Wing for our Sarawak youth aged 18 to 28 years old to give opportunity for the young people to engage in the political arena and having the exposure to meaningful participation in decision-making at all levels,

“Their participation is crucial in building a stable society and making sure that new policies are inclusive, meeting the needs of everyone including the younger generations as very often you hear people said that young people may not be interested in politics but on the contrary, my personal experiences with some young people whom I met are keen to chit chat on politics and government policies. Therefore, more opportunities should be made available for them to participate. Indeed, they are the source for new, creative, fresh ideas and new approaches for government to tap into for innovation and improved services, ” he said.

Ting who is also Assistant Minister for Tourism added that currently, the Youth Wing in SUPP are for members aged between 18 to below 45 years old. For the Party to form a new Youth Wing aged 18 to 28 years old, he said there is a need to amend SUPP Constitution and this requires approval from the Party Delegates in the Annual Delegates Conference (ADC) or Triennial Delegates Conference (TDC)

“At our next Central Working Committee meeting we will form a special committee to look into the formation of this new wing before we present and seek the approval in the Delegates Conference to amend our Party Constitution. The proposal for new wing definitely will not be in time to table for our coming ADC on January 16, 2022 but should be ready for this year Triennial Delegates Conference (TDC). In fact, we also have thoughts of looking into the formation a Putri Wing for female members aged 18 to 28 years old but it was postponed due to the impending Sarawak election. Since the election is over, our Party will re-visit this proposal of forming the Putri Wing, ” he added.
