Be sensitive of the emotional needs to those around you, says Dr. Sim
Covid-19 can kill, so could depression, said Local government and Housing Minister, Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian.
Dr. Sim said the Covid-19 pandemic has had a huge impact towards the mental health of individuals all over the world, including Malaysia.
“During trying times like this, we should care for and support each other – be aware of family members and people around us, and seek professional help if you notice someone who is displaying signs of depression,” he added.
Lately, there has been a surge of people taking their own lives.
Dr. Sim urged the people to help through effective communication with the depressed individual by showing more empathy and less judgmental behaviour.
He said those who need someone to talk to can reach out for support at the following hotline at Mental Health Psychosocial Support Service 03-29359935 or 014-3223392, Talian Kasih: 15999 or 019-2615999, Jakim’s Family, Social and Community care centre, WhatsApp 0111-9598214, Befrienders Kuala Lumpur at 03-7627292
