Dato’ Sri Dr. Sim urges those from West Malaysia not to return during festival to prevent surge of covid cases
Local government and Housing Minister, Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian pleaded with Sarawakians in West Malaysia not to return during this period or during the festive seasons.
Asking for understanding and forgiveness, Dr Sim said due to the escalating surge in covid cases both in West Malaysia and Sarawak, he said it is better for the people to stay put where they are.
“No age is too young for COVID19 in Sarawak. In 2020, the victims tended to be our Senior Sarawakians, but in 2021, younger Sarawakians also became victims of COVID-19. Between 21 to 50 years of age, there were already 25 deaths in the first four months,” he added.
He said the medical experts and scientists from JKNS & UNIMAS are helping to track virus genomics which are on high alert for the variants especially now Indian variants and South African variants are found in Malaysian in West Malaysia.
