Fight covid together, Michael Tiang urges Sibu folks

Political secretary to the Chief Minister, Michael Tiang urged members of the public to follow the standard operating procedure (SOP)of Covid 19 diligently.

Tiang said he noted that there are people who still wear their masks incorrectly and putting themselves and others at risk.

“The general public must work together to ensure that the pandemic in Sibu goes down instead of increasing daily. Lives are at stake here,” he said.

Tiang pointed out that Sibu is now under SOP during the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) thus there are more SOP to follow than other districts. He said this is not the Sibu Disaster Management Committee trying to give them a hard time but the authority is trying to bring down the curve of the pandemic.

A number of businessmen, he said, especially those not in the essential business have closed. They have sacrificed their livelihood hoping that the situation will get better in Sibu. The situation is indeed, he added, critical for them already to lose their income and some whose business are in bad shape. “So for those essential businesses and those able to go out to work, I appeal to them to follow the SOP which is meant to protect themselves and those they encounter.

Recently, the Chairman of Sibu Municipal Council, Clarence Ting said the public should change their mentally by being more concern of covid 19 infection instead of fearing police summonses for violating the SOP.

Ting was upset that many businessmen called him asking how to avoid being summoned if they operate their business. He said rarely do they ask how to fight covid together.
