Kho Teck Wan supports Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi’s call to Federal government on MA 63

SUPP Central Woman Chief, Kho Teck Wan said she fully support the Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar’s call to federal government to realise its commitments to return Sarawak’s rights under Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) into law. Especially pertaining to Sarawak’s right on oil and gas resources.

“We are happy to see the return of full control on gas distribution in Sarawak announced after the recent MA63 Special Council meeting. However the endorsement by the Federal Government should be made into laws so our rights in pursuant to MA63 will not be challenged by any party whenever there is a change in federal government. It is still fresh in my mind that merely 26 days after Pakatan Harapan took over the Federal Government, Petronas under the new directive challenged Sarawak in court over the ownership of petroleum resources in Sarawak. Then Sarawak took Petronas to court over its none payment of 5% sales tax in November 2019,” she said.

Expressing gladness that Sarawak fought hard in these legal battles and won, she said these are still challenges that can avoid should the announcements be made by the current Federal Government over our rights in accordance to MA63 be enacted into laws.

Datuk Seri Wan, she stated, had rightly pointed out that the law can still be amended while the nation is under the emergency, therefore the current government can make changes to the laws now. When the Parliament comes into session, they can then be tabled based on the constitution to be enacted into laws and have legal effect.

She hoped that other component GPS parties will too support Datuk Seri Wan’s call.
