Upgrading of roads in Batu Kawah, thanks to Minister of Works, says Dr. Sim
Local government and Housing Minister, Dato Sri Dr. Sim Kui Hian said in Sarawak, roads are classified into 3 categories with different fundings. They are Federal Road – JKR Malaysia but locally maintained by JKR Sarawak, State Road – Sarawak Government, maintained by JKR Sarawak and Council Road – Sarawak Government , maintained by respective local councils.
Dr. Sim thanked Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof, Minister of Works and JKR Malaysia for speedy approval of the roads in Jln Batu Kawa (Federal Road). He said JKR Sarawak is not just for an implementing agency but doing the tedious but necessary paperwork for the application of the Federal funding.
Other works carried out included installation of Concrete Barrier : 2.4km at RM 1,800,000 and installation of Guardrail : 540m at RM 500,000.
With the improved safety measures alone the black spots of traffic accidents at Jln Batu Kawa, Dr. Sim said he hoped that it will significantly decrease traffic accidents. He had also asked NREB Sarawak to study any other environmental factors that may contribute to accidents.
DR Sim said he will continue to fight for more Federal Funding to improve the Federal Roads especially Jalan Batu Kawah.
