Needs of people come first, said Wilfred Yap
With the continuous high incidences of Covid-19 infections, SUPP Public Complaints Bureau Chief Wilfred Yap hopes that the Government would always place the needs of the people as top priority. He also hopes that the PN Federal Government will prioritize “people over politics” policies and provide more targeted assistance to lower income families in urban areas to help them survive the Covid-19 pandemic as it appears that socio-economic conditions continue to worsen.
“In terms of welfare, the Government should consider to increase financial assistance to families edging towards a breaking point to make sure these families, whether in term of housing, jobs, income, education or general basic welfare are truly taken care of. There is an urgent need for the Government to improve its targeted income support program on its social protection program for the most vulnerable especially for those for households headed by the unemployed, low income single mothers, persons with disabilities and generally low income households“, he said.
On another unrelated matter, Yap continues to receive complaints and request for assistance on various matters. Recently requests for assistance for repairs to their dilapidated houses was received from two families at Lorong 3 and 20 of Stampin Resettlement Scheme. He hoped the Government will reduce bureaucratic red tap and simplify the procedures for those applying for Government related assistance for house repairs for their dilapidated housing.
