Helping the Pembantu Tadbir
SUPP Public Complaints Bureau (SUPP PCB) Chief Wilfred Yap was recently approached by a civil servant surnamed Kueh who is currently serving as a Administrative Assistant (Pembantu Tadbir) at a state department for assistance to draw the attention of the Sarawak Government on her predicament and those Sarawak Government employees similar to her situation.
Madam Kueh had informed SUPP Public Complaints Bureau that only Sarawak Civil Servants who serve more than 20 years or more are entitled to the one-off vacation subsidy of RM3,000.00 under “Pekeliling Perjawatan Negeri Sarawak Bilangan 20 Tahun 2019”. Madam Kueh also informed that she has served the Sarawak Government faithfully for the last 38 years and is disappointed that her application for the one-off vacation subsidi of RM3,000.00 was not approved by her department because the calculation of the period of her public service did not reach twenty years. This is because it did not include the period of her service as a daily paid worker. She first commenced work as a daily paid employee with the Sarawak Government in 1981 and her terms of service was only converted to a monthly paid employee in 2009. Madam Kueh would be entitled for the one-off vacation subsidy if her term of service had included the time when she served the Sarawak Government as a daily paid employee.
Yap had appeal to Sarawak Chief Minister YAB Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari to consider the predicament faced by Madam Kueh and all other similarly affected Sarawak Government employees by reviewing and including the period of their service as daily paid Sarawak Government employees to enable them to enjoy the one-off vacation subsidy of RM3,000.00. This is because Sarawak Government employees who started on the daily paid scheme deserve the same recognition as other Sarawak monthly paid civil servants for their dedication and contribution to public service. Sarawak Government employees who started out on the daily paid scheme also perform the same work tasks as those on the monthly paid scheme and recognition of their service during the time when they were daily paid would go a long way towards recognising and appreciating their hardwork and valuable services to the public.
