Tan Kai will continue party’s stand to help the people

Tan Kai, political secretary to the CM, believed that the people should throw their support behind the Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) candidate.

Aged 47, Tan Kai said although he is no longer in the SUPP Central committee after giving up his Youth Central Chief post last Triennial Delegates Conference, Tan Kai still sits in the Central Working committee (CWC) due to his political secretary’s position.

“Kuching has been under the Opposition for too long. And there is no development. So this is a good chance for the people to give their support back to the BN to see changes. The BN manifesto is out and there are many good things waiting for Sarawakians. We will get back our rights, better infrastructure and improvement of quality of telecommunications. These are just a few of what we will be getting. So it is time for the Kuching voters to realize their dreams by voting in BN candidates,” he said.

Tan Kai stood in the last parliamentary election against DAP Chong Chieng Jen where he lost a majority of 9,952 votes. Chong was re-elected for the second term as MP Kuching.

Calling it the wind of change for the last General election, Tan Kai said this time a lot of real changes had happened after SUPP won back 7 state seats.

After winning, the State assemblymen have gone down to the ground to deliver what was promised. The people, he said, can see for themselves how SUPP YBs had transformed the constituencies they won.

In his second year as a political secretary to the CM, Tan Kai who has an office at the old DUN explained that they too have to go to the ground to cover the areas the YBs were not able to due to their tight schedules. He also represented a number of his Party president, Datuk Dr. Sim Kui Hian’s functions.

“Our job is mainly to bridge the relationship between the government agencies and the people. We are to explain the government policies to the people too. Take for example, most of the projects implemented agencies JKR, MPP, and DID are the major ones. These three government agencies implemented the projects. At times they are also other requirement such as SESCO, Land and Survey or Kuching Water Board who assisted in implementing the projects. Under RTP (Rural Transformation Project) every BN State Assemblyman is entitled to have RM5 million worth of project per year under state government. Thus a lot can be done to help the people,” he added.

Of the projects, Tan Kai said the one related to DID were mostly flood mitigation and river bank protection projects. Projects, according to him, given to Padawan Municipal council were mostly on the construction of Infrastructure, roads and drains and Futsal field . Those under JKR were be community halls and road constructions.

Urging the people to be patient for some of the infrastructure not done, Tan Kai said a number of procedures needed to be followed before implementing. The relevant agencies have to come up with the costing and a review by the Resident office who oversees the selection of the project.

“My job is basically to identify the project via people complaint or mobile service. Every week, we have to wear our yellow shirt (party signature color) to meet up with the people. That is why wherever the problems, we will be in the know. This is under RTP to be implemented. The urgent one will be implemented immediately. In the last five years, Batu Kawa was under-developed as it was under DAP,” he said.

Tan Kai said there were several funding for the BN YBs and another is the Marris funding which all goes to the resurfacing of the road. A Minister also has an extra RM2 million besides the RM5 million.

Even if not selected as a candidate, Tan Kai said he will continue to serve the rakyat with sincerity and to support anyone coming out to stand in Kuching.
