Statement by SUPP Central Women Section Chairman Cr. Kho Teck Wan

The decision of the Federal Court to dismiss the appeal of four Muslims by the Federal court to have their applications to apostate be heard in the civil high court should be respected, said SUPP Central Women Section Chairman Cr. Kho Teck Wan.

While respecting  the decision made by the Federal Court, Kho said as Sarawakian, we have lived harmoniously despite our race and religion differences, and with years of good relationship between the religious bodies in Sarawak.

“I have confidence that the Sarawak Syariah Court will evaluate the apostate case fairly according to Syariah law and make the right decision for these applicants.” she added.

Kho reckoned that the crowd who was rowdy at the courthouse do not represent the majority Muslims in Sarawak whom we know are peace loving and harmonious. I am also glad to see many Muslims were there to protect the Archbishop Simon Poh to  ensure he was safe to leave the courthouse.

Sarawak is the model of solidarity among different races and religions. I urge my fellow Sarawakians to continue to safeguard this very important virtue like our most precious treasure.
