Helping out with documentation of stateless children
Piasau State Assemblyman, Dato’ Sebastian Ting who arranged for the families of the stateless children and JPN said it was very kind of the Miri JPN Director, Jasni bin Haji Jubli who was also at the hall of Petronas Game village to supervise the procedure.
A total of 128 stateless children registered with the National Registration department (JPN) in Miri this morning.
Ting said there are children who did not have full documents and the JPN personnel were there to register them and to assist them on how to obtain verification from the relevant authorities. Parents were also interviewed by JPN staff on the spot.
“The parents were able to get first hand information on what to do and they are grateful for JPN to extend this assistance to them.
This is the second time JPN Director has come to the ground to assist the stateless children this year. I want to thank Dato’ Sri Fatimah Abdullah for co-ordinating with the Federal to help these stateless children. Our DPM, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi who recently came to Sarawak has also agreed to solve the issue by December,” he said .
Ting said he hoped that the children will be given proper documents so that they can move on with their lives. “As most of them has a parent who are Malaysian, it is fortunate that they can go to primary school but things will get more difficult if they were adults and unable to do much without identity cards.
