Helping out the less fortunate
Batu Kitang State Assemblyman, Lo Khere Chiang appealed to members of the public to help by giving to the less fortunate in kind or cash.
Officiating the launch of the SUPP Batu Kitang Charity Drive this afternoon at the Batu Kitang Service centre, Lo said with the end of the year, they are preparing for the onset of heavy downpour.
He said he hoped that there will no disaster as it always bring hardship to the people. He added that everyone need to prepare in case of unforseen circumstances. “So I am appealing to those who has old clothings, non perishable goods like canned food, rice, bottled water or toys to pass to the various centres so that the Batu Kitang staff can itemised and store it on their ground floor. We will keep the public informed of items received now and then,” he said.
Lo thanked SUPP Sentosa, Stakan branch, Kuching Branch and Pending branch for assisting them in the project.
Meanwhile, Organising Chairman of the Project, Gerald Goh said the timing is good for the public to do their bit as December is the month for Christmas which also calls for a spirit of caring and giving. He said as the season of heavy rainfall always causes floods in low lying Batu Kitang, the preparation of a stock to give up to needy people will be timely.
The Batu Kitang has set up a committee to manage collection centres at different venue from time to time.
Donors can also donate their items at collection centres in Spring, Boulevard and Viva city shopping malls between 10 am to 10 pm. The SJK Chung Hua 4 and half mile will also be used to accept donation of necessities from December 1st to 23rd daily from 10 am to 12 noon and 2 pm to 4 pm.

Also at the function was Chairperson for Kuching branch, Datuk Lily Yong, Stakan Chairman, Sim Kiang Cheok and SUPP Batu Kitang members.
